Thumbnails for Documents

  Is there a version of a gallery or thumbnail images for .pdf documents?
  I have a number of work samples to feature on one page, and instead of making a boring list with links I’d like to feature thumbnails of the pdfs that open in a pop-up or expand when the user scrolls over them. When I played with this idea by trying to create a ‘document gallery’ from my media, I didn’t even have the option to Continue to the gallery-making page. Any thoughts? Thank you very much!
