Thumbnails for facebook links…..
-
Hi all :)
When I copy a link from my site to Facebook, the default thumbnail is the WordPress logo W……can I change it so that my Gravatar shows instead ?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
There are numerous threads about the thumbnail not working properly with FB. There’s nothing you can do right now; staff are trying to fix it.
-
I’m sorry, new to this and have not used right words for search.
Thank you for your reply :)
So this is a problem ? The possibillity is there, just not working at the moment ? :) -

When a post has no images, and I want an image of my choice to appear on Facebook, I use the following HTML code at the beginning (it prevents the “W” from showing up)
<div style="display:none;"><img src="IMAGE_URL_HERE"/></div> -
I’m not sure I understand airodyssey……I’m just on my page, posting a link……how can this prevent the W from showing up ? Where ever I put it it shows up….the link ;)

Nope not getting it lol :)
Walk me through this please……I’m on my profile, click share link, copy the link in the field, click attach, click no image ? And then your link where it says Say something about this link ? -
I’m still not clear, as I can see… You copy and paste this code on WordPress.com, on your post itself (above the body of your post), in the HTML editor.
Do not try to paste this on “Say something about this link” or anything like that.
-
And in case I’m still not clear, you have to replace “IMAGE_URL_HERE” by an actual URL of your image (for example, http://myblog.files/wordpress.com/2011/06/image.jpg)
-
That’s my problem :)
If I’m reading YOUR wordpress.com post……want to share it on Facebook, then I can’t copy or edit anything in the editor.
And if I posted something weeks ago here on WP, do I have to go into the body of the post to paste your link, so my copied post onto Facebook will have the right thumbnail ?
And yes, I did notice the IMAGE_URL_HERE thingy ;)Thanks for your help :)
-
Now I get it. You’re trying to share someone else’s post. My solution only works if it’s your own post and you want to make sure there’s no “W” logo instead of an actual image.
Sorry about that.

Ok, but thanks for the link, finally got it to work :)
Can I set it as a default for new posts ? ;) -
To my knowledge, no. I have to remember manually to use the code if I’m publishing a post with no images.
