To Map or Swap

  I have an existing website with Wix (which as a website builder is not fulfilling my needs), the domain for the website is with 123reg and I want to keep it as its on all my advertising. I need my website to stay functioning as I build a new one on WordPress should I map my domain? Will it cost more?

  It’s more a personal preference type of thing, really.

  Mapping allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

  A transfer would allow to manage both your site and domain from the same place: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

  So, basically, are you an “all of your eggs in one basket” type of person, or “not all of your eggs in one basket”? :)

  Also, when you start a site here, we’ll give you a free subdomain to build it under. You won’t need to add your custom domain until you’re ready for it.

  So can I build my wordpress website and when I am ready, transfer my wix domain name across to the newly built wordpress website?
