  My site is on wix and I do not want to transfer until the new WP site is created to replace the wix site

  If you are building the site from scratch you can do so on a free plan with a free domain from wordpress.com and then transfer / map your domain once you are done. You can start a free site here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/start/

  You can also do the same if you are importing from Wix. Import your content to a free wordpress.com domain and then associate your custom domain once you are done. setting up the site. You can refer to this guide for more: https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-from-wix/

  Hi there!

  Just to add to what @therefoiam wrote above. The free plan has its limitations, so you may need to upgrade right away, depending on what you’re planning to do with your site. You can purchase the desired plan and still only use the free domain so that your custom domain keeps displaying the existent site.
