Transfer Domain

  • Unknown's avatar

I am having an issue. I recently purchased a service with WordPress.com only to find out I really don’t care for it. I then found out how to begin the refund for my account. I finished that process but need to access the domain so I can switch it to a hosting service more suited for my needs. Can someone please help get my domain back and get the transfer started?

    Thanks,

    Patrick

bump… i see staff replying to people here.. not sure if I was unclear…

When cancelling my account, I thought I could still transfer the domain. Unfortunately that is not the case, however it seems simpler to transfer than have it trapped for no reason.

    Please help!

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

When you cancelled the domain, you stopped owning it. Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and it can take anything from a few days to over a year before a cancelled domain becomes available again, if at all. We do not directly control this process, and have no way of manually releasing a domain if requested.

You should never cancel a domain that you still want to use, as there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to use it again somewhere else in future. You should only cancel a domain if you’re completely sure you no longer want it at all.

In this case, as you cancelled on the same day you bought the domain, it should be released by the end of this week at which point you can register it at another provider. So the simplest option is just to be patient for this to happen.

Otherwise we can also still restore the domain to your WordPress.com account, but as you’ve already been refunded we’ll first need you to pay for the domain’s registration again.

Please let me know if you’d prefer to restore the domain to your WordPress.com account, and I can send you a link to use to pay for the registration.
