transfer domain – 60-day policy

  Can someone please explain to me how to get around the 60 -day waiting period?…. This seems like bad business to me, holding MY domain hostage.

  There is no way around it, as it is a policy imposed on all domain registrars by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the organization which basically controls all domains: https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/

  Until then, you can still direct your domain anywhere by changing its name servers: https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/change-name-servers/

  Thanks for the response – So if i’m understanding you correctly, by following the second link you provided, I can launch my website with my domain on a non-wordpress platform?

  Correct. By changing the name servers, you essentially move your domain’s DNS to another hosting provider, so then that hosting provider has control over what site appears at your domain, i.e. the site you’ll build on their servers.

  Some services, like Squarespace, for example, don’t use name servers, though, but instead just us IP addresses. So if you’re moving to a platform like that you’ll leave the domain’s DNS in our control, but then you can add the required IP addresses on our end to point the domain to the other service instead:

  So which method you’ll use will depend on the service where you’ll be hosting your site.
