Transfer Domain from a registrar to WordPress

Hello, I am trying to rebuild my website with WordPress.com business plan. I already have a domain purchased with another registrar, which is currently in use for our current website. However, I would like to keep this domain for the new website as all our emails are linked to that domain.

I see that I can map this existing domain with the new site, however, I would like to completely move my domain from the current registrar to WordPress. How can I safely move my domain to my new WordPress site? Also, would I be able to keep my email id and old emails that I have with the old registrar?

    Thank you.

  • Hi there,

At the moment it’s not possible to transfer a domain registration to WordPress.com, so for now the only option is to map the domain here.

However, you can set up all DNS records required for your email to work on our end, and then it will still work once you point the domain to us.

Go to My Site ->Plans and purchase the plan. Then go to My Site ->Domains and add the domain mapping upgrade.

Next add the MX and other DNS records your email uses to the domain mapping upgrade, and once you’ve done that, change the name servers at your registrar to point the domain here. If you do the steps in that order you should have minimal downtime, if any, for your email.

You can find info on domain mapping and adding email here:
