Transfer domain name VS Mapping domain
-
Hi there … just wanted to check with you prior to going ahead with the aim of having my new wordpress site take over the .com name currently pointed here via my original provider i.e. http://www.frankenskippy.com replacing the http://www.wordpress.frankenskippy.com
I still have emails registered with the original provider. I obviously need to make sure my email services will not be cancelled or adversely affected by the domain name transfer.
I look forward to your reply. -
Hello there,
Many thanks for reaching out.
Domain mapping:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/When the domain name servers change to:
ns1.wordpress.com ns2.wordpress.com ns3.wordpress.comYou would need to then add the DNS/MX records that power the email here at WordPress.com.
Domain transfer
https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/Usually, DNS settings are carried over with a transfer, however, this isn’t always guaranteed.
You may need to also reapply these DNS/MX records again here at WordPress.com.
Please see how to add DNS settings here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/custom-dns/
I hope this helps.
