Transfer Domain to New Domain Registrar

    Hello,

Recently, I purchased web hosting through iPage in order to take http://www.riseandvibe.com off WordPress hosting. The site is starting to grow and we are looking to run some like-minded Ads on here in the very near future. However, I am beyond lost in regards to transferring this domain to the new registrar at ipage.com. It would be great to walk through this with someone if you were available. Thank you so much!

    Hi there,

I’m happy to help! Right now, your domain riseandvibe.com is being used with your WordPress.com site, but it isn’t actually registered here at WordPress.com. It looks like the domain riseandvibe.com is registered at GoDaddy.

If you’d like to transfer the domain from the current registrar (GoDaddy) to a new registrar (iPage), you’ll need to initiate the transfer with GoDaddy. It looks like GoDaddy has a support page about how to do that here:

    http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/3560/transferring-domain-names-to-another-registrar

They should be able to help you with that if you run into any trouble with the transfer process. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Thanks Rachel! I now have my domain pointing to iPage. However, I now have a big problem to fix as my site is completely gone when I go to riseandvibe.com. I guess that is because I’m not hosted on WordPress anymore?

They did say it would take 24-72 hours to get this domain transfer to go through. When it does, will my site come back?

I’ve also just correctly transferred the domain from GoDaddy to iPage. So, I think I’ve done both steps now. Just need to figure out now how to get the site to go to riseandvibe.com and show up as my blog!

Ah, sorry about that! Because you pointed your domain to iPage, it’s now showing the site that you have hosted at iPage. That’s different from the site you have hosted here at WordPress.com. (Your domain will always show the content that you have for your site on the host where it’s pointed.)

If you’d like, you can export all the content from your WordPress.com site and import it over at iPage. You can do that export from Tools > Export in your WordPress.com site’s dashboard here:

    https://pkmusik.wordpress.com/wp-admin/export.php

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that!

Thanks Rachel! Some of it has imported, but not the theme and it looks completely different. Any idea how I can get it to look like my WordPress one?

If I am looking to run Ads and everything as well….maybe it’s time for a new format anyways.

When you export your site’s content, that doesn’t include the theme or other customizations you made to your site’s appearance (like widgets or other theme settings.) Also, premium themes like the Simfo theme can’t be transferred directly from WordPress.com to a self-hosted WordPress site. If you’d like to use that theme on your self-hosted site, you’ll need to purchase the self-hosted WordPress version:

    Simfo

If you’re looking at a new format for your site, there are also a lot of themes for self-hosted WordPress sites that you can look through at WordPress.org here:

    http://wordpress.org/themes/

    I hope this helps!
