Transfer domain to WordPress?
-
I currently have a domain with GoDaddy, but have not created my entire website yet that I started on Wix. I would like to change to WordPress to develop my website, but should I also transfer the domain? Thanks

You don’t have to do anything with the domain right away. In fact, I’d suggest to leave it where it is for the time being. Go ahead and set up a free site on WordPress.com and build out your project entirely before connecting the domain to it.
If you want to keep it hidden from search engines that is a simple setting adjustment. https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
This is a really helpful starting place to get familiar with WordPress.com. https://learn.wordpress.com/
Write back to me here with any questions about that material.

When it comes time to connect the domain you have 2 choices. Both options require a personal plan upgrade. https://wordpress.com/plans/ The plan includes your domain, hosting, and support plus a bunch of other features.
1. Mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
2. Transfer: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/There’s not a right or wrong answer. If you have questions about the choices let me know. The domain would need to be 60 days old before you can transfer the domain. That’s an ICANN regulation.
