Transfer existing domain registration to WordPress

I have my domain name http://www.maxkinnings.com registered with Verio but I would like to have it registered with WordPress. The domain name is currently up for renewal so how do I go about transferring it to WordPress so that my wordpress site comes up just as http://www.maxkinnings.com rather than defaulting to the wordpress blog url? I also use Verio for storage of files as they give me 5 GB storage. Can I use WordPress for storage of files too therefore dispensing with Verio altogether (they’re pricey!). Many thanks – look forward to hearing from you.

    Max.

    Hi there!

We do not accept incoming domain transfers. Your best option is to keep your domain registered with another registrar. If you’d like to move away from Verio, you can do that by transferring your domain away from them to another registrar like GoDaddy or Register.com.

You do have 3GB of upload space on your standard WordPress.com site. If you’ve purchased WordPress.com Premium, as you have for maxkinning.wordpress.com you have 13GB of space.

To point your domain hosted elsewhere to your WordPress.com site, first purchase a Domain Mapping upgrade for the domain by visiting Store > My Domains in your dashboard. Select “Map a Domain Name You Already Own”.

Then change your name servers on the domain to the following:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

If you don’t know how to do this, you’ll need to contact your registrar for assistance.

Let me know if I can help further!
