Transfer Expired Domain
-
I originally had the WordPress premium plan, but the plan and my domain expired in mid-June. I’m trying to renew and transfer the domain to self-hosting, but I’m not sure how to do it – the only thing that comes up in MySite’s “Domains” is the free one. Would appreciate help with this. Thanks!

Hi there, since the domain has expired, you will need to pay for the domain. Once that is done, you can point that domain at your new web host’s domain nameservers as explained in the following support document.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/change-name-servers/
If you are wanting to transfer registration of that domain to another registrar, you can do that after 60 days. This is a time-limit set by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the governing body for domain names.
Let me know if you agree to pay for the domain renewal and I can get it restored to your account for you. Let me know as soon as possible on this so that we can keep it from going into redemption, which would mean an additional fee would be levied by the domain registrar.

Thank you for your for the info! I would like to pay for the domain and to transfer it (though I assume I won’t be able to do that until the 60 days is up).
In that case, what happens to the domain after I paid for it but am waiting for the transfer?

@wanderstylust when you transfer the domain, another year will be added to it.
We’ll email an invoice shortly; when you’ve paid that let us know and we’ll work on restoring the domain.
