Transfer free WP site to replace premium domain

  I’ve created a new website for our city at https://villagealphatest.wordpress.com/ to replace our current and outdated website found at villageofalpha.org which is hosted at http://www.webhostinghub.com Through this company, we are already paying for the premium WordPress service through webhostinghub so I was hoping to transfer over this test wordpress site to the villageofalpha.org domain name but remove the WordPress branding—is this possible without having to recreate the website at villageofalpha.org?

  Hi there,

  The address, villagealphatest.wordpress.com, cannot be transferred. You can only transfer the content you have on that site by exporting it. You can find instructions to do that here:

  Export

  The theme and settings from the WordPress.com site cannot be exported. Only the content.

  Alternatively, you can connect your existing domain to your WordPress.com site via the Domain Mapping upgrade. In that case we would be hosting your site, so you won’t have to pay another service for hosting, but you’ll still need to pay them for the domain. Adding domain mapping to a WordPress.com site requires that you upgrade to a paid plan under My Site ->Plans.

  Thank you for the response! I want to keep the existing domain name of villageofalpha.org so exporting the “in-process” WordPress blog sounds like the perfect option. I’m assuming I’ll have to convert the current village .org site to a WordPress site and then import the “in-process” sit to there once converted?

  If you want to keep your site with webhostinghub.com, you’ll need to install the self-hosted WordPress software there, yes. Then you’ll be able to import the export file to that site.

  You can find complete information on and support with the self-hosted WordPress software here:

  https://wordpress.org/

  But you can also use your villageofalpha.org domain with your WordPress.com site here, as I explained above. Then we will be hosting the site instead of webhostinghub.com. But it’s up to you which option you prefer :)
