Transfer from WordPress issue
-
Hi,
I started to transfer my website icreateunity.com to Godaddy and received a notice this morning that Automatic is transferring my information to Gandi (which has nothing to do with transfer to my Godaddy account). Can someone please explain to me why this is happening and what to do about it. I’ve emailed the Gandi support to find some answers but have not heard back from someone yet.
Thanks!

@icreateunity Only you can initiate a transfer, and it requires you to give your code to to the registrar. So if you only gave it to GoDaddy, I would check with them first. But in the meantime you can cancel the transfer if you are not sure.

thank you so much for the feedback. i heard from gandi and put a halt to the transfer domain that automatic was trying to do. everything should be smooth sailing now. thanks again!

@icreateunity you’re welcome; to be clear though, Automattic wasn’t trying to do a transfer. It was allowing one you had initiated. I hope that helps. :)

actually no, the transfer it was trying to make to gandi was not initiated from godaddy. I’m so freaking confused about all this.

The company losing the domain (that’s us) doesn’t initiate transfers at all, so it would have had to have been initiated elsewhere.
For now if you want to point to GoDaddy, I recommend asking them about what name servers to use, then using these steps to set them:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/Alternatively, you might try this:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/point-a-wordpress-com-domain-to-godaddy/Then you can try again with the transfer, but just be super careful to read each related email that comes through so you won’t accept any unintended tranfers. Good luck!
