Transfer my Entire Site to new Host

I am finally ready to move away from yahoo stores and I am wanting to start working on my site with wordpress.com. However the problem I had with yahoo store is that all that work I did there is lost because it was proprietary so I don’t want to do the same here. I know I can export my content but what about my entire website, all the time and work I will be putting into web design and theme customization, etc. etc. If I get dissatisfied with wordpress.com can I move my entire website to another host or only my content? Thanks!

Hi @happinessfarms, WordPress.org is free software you can install anywhere you like and customize with your own themes and plugins.
WordPress.com runs a customized version of that software for you. You’re free to create a site here then export it to your own installation a another host. But you mentioned you’re running a store: right now our version a WordPress.com does not have e-commerce capabilities built in, so you would probably need your own installation anyway.
