  what is the best option here and i already have the domain why do i need to pay to map

  Transferring to the domain to WordPress.com means you would renew it through us going forward:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

  The benefit to this option is your domain and site can be managed from one place.

  why do i need to pay to map

  Domain mapping is a feature of paid plans and this cost includes storage space, removal of ads and support :)
