transfer or map
-
I’m creating a landing page through WordPress for a client. Not sure how long they will keep the page after the campaign is over. I also want to do this as cost-effective as possible and mapping will cost me $96. what will the transfer cost?

Hi!
Functionally, it really makes no difference. Both work equally well and will send users to your site when they enter your domain into their browser. In terms of cost, there really is no difference either. It is possible to have a domain transferred here and not pay for a WordPress.com plan, but the domain will merely point to the sites _______.wordpress.com URL. If you want to use that custom domain, you will need a paid plan.

What it really comes down to is if you have opinions on the ease of keeping your site billing in one place (one bill from WordPress.com vs a bill from WordPress.com and a bill from your domain registrar). Or if you have a particular reason to want to use an external registrar (perhaps you have many domains and want to keep them all registered in the same place).
A bit more information can also be found here:

I suppose if I had to suggest, I’d say just set up mapping if you think that this will not be a long-term project.
