Transfer Subscribers and Stats

  • Unknown's avatar

I’d like to transfer my subscribers, followers and stats from my wordpress.com site to my new self-hosted site. The original address is beautifulchaosdotcom.wordpress.com and the new address is welcometothezoo.ca. I’ve installed Jetpack already.

    Thanks so much,
    Megan

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I can help you with that. However, I am seeing jetpack as being connected to teal.arvixe.com/~amelford/thezoo/ and not welcometothezoo.ca. Can you please get that corrected? After that is done, I will be able to start on the migration.

I’m not sure how to go about doing that. We did just transfer the domain over, could that have confused the issue? If not, could you please let me know how to connect Jetpack to welcometothezoo.ca?

  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting Jetpack. That’s often a good place to start.

Okay, I’ve done that. However, it looks like I’ve lost my stats from the last two days (17,000-ish views). Is there any way to get them back too?

  • Is there any way to get them back too?

    Not easily, no.

  • I have migrated your subscribers and followers to your new site.

Let me know if anything seems amiss.

Okay, I’m seeing my subscribers but I’m not seeing followers or stats from beautifulchaosdotcom.wordpress.com.

    Not easily, no.

    What’s the hard way?

  • but I’m not seeing followers

I’m seeing 30 WordPress.com followers, what are you seeing?

    stats from beautifulchaosdotcom.wordpress.com.

So the deal with stats is that post ID numbers need to match in order for stats to be migrated. The IDs do not match on your old and new blogs. You could redo your setup so that they do match, but that is a lot of work and is really up to you if it is worth it. In any case, the couple days where jetpack was connected to the wrong site will be missing no matter what.

Let me know if that doesn’t make sense or if you have any questions.

I’m seeing 48, but the original number was closer to 80. Maybe the wordpress.com blog includes followers from Facebook and the new one doesn’t?

So to get the stats from the old blog, I would need to change the id for each individual post then? How would I go about doing that? And would I be changing the id on the new version or the old version?

Btw, thanks so much for all of your help with this!!

If you were looking at a number that included FB or Twitter followers, those would not have been transfered. Though one would assume that once you get your new blog connected to the social networks that those followers will still be around.

No, it is something you do when you set up your site initially and import the .com posts. Your best bet might be asking on the .org support forum:
