The biggest con is loss of customization options – we offer no FTP access on WordPress.com, so you cannot edit your site’s source files directly, and you have no way to manually configure the server settings for your site as we take care of that automatically. This also means some dashboard options, like custom permalinks, are not available on WordPress.com. Using custom CSS, third party themes or plugins are only available if you purchase one of our paid plans.
