Transfer WordPress.com to .org? [Unique Problem]
-
Ok so I’ll first explain what I did, so it will hopefully help.
This is my first time making a site of any sort, so bear with me.I created a website on wordpress.com.
When I created it, I bought myself a domain name, DavideMastracci.comUpon doing this, I realized I wanted to install plugins, but realized I couldn’t. I discovered I needed to get my website hosted, and then transferred to the .org to do so.
So I got myself hosted on HostGator.
Then, I attempted to do the one click installation of wordpress.org to my main domain. It was successful, and gave me the admin username and a password, but when I tried to log in to the url it told me to, I just got redirected to my main domain, with it telling me that I have the wrong log in info.
By buying a domain before transferring to wordpress.org, did I screw myself over? I just want wordpress.org on my domain.
Any help would be great.

Not sure what you need to do at Host Gator to set them up to receive your domain name mapping – but you need to point your domain name to your Host Gator site
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/
You also need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/

What do you mean my host gator site? When I hosted my domain there I set it up to host the domain that I created using wordpress.com (davidemastracci.com)
-
So I got myself hosted on HostGator.
Then, I attempted to do the one click installation of wordpress.org to my main domain. You want to use Plug-in’s – you need to send your name servers to Host Gator – your WordPress.COM site will got back to the base name (pre-mapped URL) – your domain name davidemastracci.com will get you access to your Host Gator site

Ok I’m at that part now. As it stands, the specific nameservers are ns1.wordpress.com and ns2.wordpress.com
What do I need to change them to so that wordpress.ORG will work?
-
Actually I found them in my host gator email. Now that I’ve changed them, do I just wait for it to take effect, and it will work, or?
-
It can take 24 to 72 hours for changes to migrate to the far corners of the internet – changes usually start sooner but access can be erratic for a while
