  can I leave the blog in blogspot AND transfer a copy to word press while I learn how to use the new program?

  Hi @llaurino yes, it is possible to do that. New sites created on WordPressdotcom are Private until you are ready to launch it. You can follow this guide to import your current blogspot posts to your existing WordPressdotcom site: https://transferto.wordpress.com/blogger/
