Transfering from wordpress.com to a hosted web site provider

  I tried to do this but seemed to have exported and imported in to wordpress! Can you help me through the process.

  Ah, sorry I was away sick. But yes, you’ll use these steps actually:

  move.wordpress.com

  I am also transfering from wordpress.com to a website provide (which supports wordpress.org). I cannot get the wordpress theme I purchased to transfer over. Any ideas?

  Hi Cachegop,

  No sorry except try ‘elegant themes’ in case it’s there and transfers more easily.

  Do you know how to delete the incorrect import I made so I can delete duplicate files on the site?

  @cachegop the theme licenses are usually a bit different for WordPress.com vs WordPress.org sites and they don’t transfer back and forth. Sorry about that.

  @softskillslearningie usually you shouldn’t get duplicate content. But if you do, and if all of the posts are in your export file, you should be able to remove all posts and media (assuming the media is still available on the old site) and import again.
