transfering from wp.COM to wp.ORG
-
i checked this faq https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/transfering-wordpresscom-to-wordpressorg-blog?replies=2
but it didn’t help
my blog is http://chasingferrell.wordpress.com but i didn’t know the difference between wp.COM and wp.ORG i’m realizing that i probably want .ORG, mostly because i would like to have a d-day count down timer on my blog and i cant find one on .COM
i’m still not really clear on the advantages of .COM, but i’m looking for simplicity, which i think favors .ORG
thanks.
p.s. i did read the difference between wp.org and wp.com sticky

Simplicity actually favors .COM, but there are more restrictions at .COM.
With a .ORG blog, you are responsible for installing the software, updating the software, troubleshooting problems, including problems related to the MySQL database that is part of a .ORG install, any security issues that are introduced by any code that you add such as plugins, or javascript, or flash and you are also responsible for all backups, and in addition you have to know how to work with FTP, and know about file and folder “permissions” so that you can protect your installation. You also have to pay for web hosting and domain registration which can run an average of $7 to $50 per month or more depending on how much storage space you need and how much bandwidth. If you get one or more of your posts “digged” you can possibly reach your bandwidth limit in a matter of days. I have a friend that ended up having to take the digg button off of his blog because he went from 10% of his monthly bandwidth to 85% in two days and it was only the 10th of the month. With .COM, there are no bandwidth limits.
.ORG freedom is only limited by the terms of service at the web host you use and at least in my case, it has been virtually trouble free, but I’ve also spent quite a bit of time helping other bloggers that have done an upgrade or added some code or a plugin and their blogs virtually quit working.
Basically what I’m saying is you have to commit to doing the maintenance and tasks necessary with a .ORG blog or at some point I can guarantee you will have issues.

ok, the maintenance and bandwidth issues seem very convincing.
now anyone know about a dday/countdown timer for .COM?

You might find what you need in this blog entry by timethief: http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/03/11/how-to-add-a-countdown-ticker-to-your-blog/
There is a vast amount of very good information on her blog about all aspects of blogging and wordpress.COM.
