Transferring a domain name to WordPress

    Hi there,
I would like to transfer a domain name which previously registered from Wix to WordPress.
But I’m in trouble about the situation of the domain name. I’ve already canceled the domain fee from Wix. However, it shows that I still own that domain name. But now I can’t connect it to my Wix website as well as renew it or register it as a new one.
When I come to WordPress, it shows that this domain name is already taken.
Anyway I’m moving my site to WordPress. But I really wanna keep this domain. In this weird situation, can you still help me to transfer the domain from Wix to WordPress?
    FYI, the domain is ‘reelwomenhongkong.org’
Thanks a lot! Await for your reply.

  • Hi there,

It’s not possible to import a domain to WordPress.com, as we’re not able to accept incoming domain transfers. So to use an existing domain with a WordPress.com site, you need to map the domain here instead.

However, you need to currently own a domain to be able to map it.

Cancelled domains are not released immediately, but can take anything from a few days to over a year before they become available again. How long depends on the policies of the registrar where you bought the domain.

In this case it looks like your domain is currently parked, so your best option would be to contact Wix support and find out if you can still un-cancel the domain. Then you’ll need to ask for their help in pointing the domain here instead.

On our end, you’ll need a paid plan under My Site ->Plans, and then you can add the domain mapping upgrade to connect the domain to your site here:
