'Transferring' a domain that is registered elsewhere

I have a domain name registered at iPage that has been mapped to be used with my WordPress blog. In the long run, I would like my domain and hosting/blog to be in one place. So is the only way I can achieve that by letting my domain expire at iPage and then registering at WordPress? And if so, how long after it expires, can I register? (obviously, I wouldn’t want it risk losing it)

  • While we register new domains here at WordPress.com, we’re not able to accept incoming transfers of existing domain names. Therefore, we recommend that you keep the name registered at your current registrar.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

  • Also, I highly encourage you to NEVER allow your domain to expire. While in theory, that would be a way to have your domain registered at WordPress.com. It is also a process that can take up to 90 days before your previous registrar releases the domain to be registered again. And in truth, it may never be released and may be swiped by a domain squatter at a domain auction.

Expiration is a bad deal for domains.
