Transferring a word press site to word press platform off a zip file?

    A person created my word press website. The intent was to promote my website with them, however, I need to take a step back with helping with my parents right now, so only want to have regular hosting of my site with WordPress, so wondering how to transition. I was told he will give me a zip file that can be uploaded, but if I’m already on work press, is there another way with out having to zip the file? Thanks!
