Transferring domain from one WordPress site to another

  Hi there,

  I had a couple of questions.

  1. I am the administrator of a domain that is owned by a site I am not the owner of. If I create my own site, can I transfer the domain to my site? Also, recently I had to make some changes in the Domain contact information. So I have a 60-day lock period on transfer to another registrar. Does that lock period apply to transfers between WordPress sites as well?

  2. Until recently, scirio.in was the primary domain and today it has been changed to scirio.wpcomstaging.com. Why did that change suddenly now because I have not renewed my Business plan since March?

  Hi there, it looks like the first part of your question was addressed by Staff in this thread: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/random-url-being-redirected-to-my-website so any information concerning transfer of the domain needs to be done by the rajanikv account

  The 60-day domain transfer lock is imposed by ICANN. It does not matter where the sites are hosted.

  That’s correct. If the Business plan expired, the site address would have changed to the wpcomstaging subdomain address rather than the custom domain.

  I’ve also flagged this thread for Staff attention and they will advise what you need to do going forward.

  No. That transfer is only blocked between domain registrars. You can move it to another account on WordPress.com because it won’t affect the domain registration.

  Thank you for your responses. I needed another clarification too.

  I see that after I have transferred the domain, my content/website is still linked to the older WordPress site. How do I transfer that too, to my new site?
