Transferring domain to WordPress
-
I started with GoDaddy who hold my domain name and renewal charge. I changed to BlueHost and upgraded to a WordPress site. I have an established plan with BlueHost. I was hoping to change my domain ‘holder’ to WordPress but it asks me to sign up to a monthly plan, which I cannot afford in addition to the BlueHost one. Do I have to leave this with GoDaddy?

Hi there,
The WordPress you’re using at Bluehost is not the same thing as WordPress.com in whose forums you’re posting now.
WordPress.com is a hosting provider, like Bluehost, and it would only make sense to transfer your domain to us if you were hosting your site with us. But you’re hosting your site with Bluehost – to transfer the domain to us you’d not only need to buy one of our plans, but you’d also need to create a new site with us.
Bluehost is also a domain provider, and your hosting plan with them might even include a domain registration, so if you prefer to have your domain and site in the same place, transferring it to Bluehost would be the best options.
It’s not possible to transfer your domain to the WordPress you’re using, as WordPress is not a domain or a hosting provider. It is just the name of the software with which your site is built, and that software is made by a community of volunteers who contribute to it in their free time over on WordPress.org.
I hope this clarifies things, but let me know if you have any more questions.
