Transferring Domain to WordPress and creating an updated site

  My domain has been on Ipower for several years, but I’m interested in creating a more updated site with a new look on WordPress. How do I go about this? If I transfer my old site to WordPress, can I then edit it to new look or do I need to create a whole new site?
