Transferring Food Blog Website from Wix

    Hi,
I am having trouble with my wix food blog as they don’t support printable recipes, the images do not pull from my blog, and the site doesn’t load properly for my visitors. I am looking to transfer my site to WordPress. I already own a domain and my site is currently live with Wix. In order to transfer, I want to fully create my website with wordpress first then transfer from wix to avoid any downtime on my site. What is the best way to go about this? Do I start with free wordpress domain and then transfer my domain later? Thanks so much for your help. – Amanda

    Hi Amanda,

I want to fully create my website with wordpress first then transfer from wix to avoid any downtime on my site.

There are two types of WordPress.com:

    1. WordPress.com: where the site is created and hosted here on WordPress.com.
    2. WordPress.org: where WordPress.org software is installed on a host of your choice and maintained by you.

We have more information about the main differences here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

By default, there isn’t a printable recipe feature on WordPress.com but visitors can print posts and pages from their browsers. Anything beyond that (for example, print styles to match your site layout and design) would require custom plugins, which are available to WordPress.com sites using the Business plan.

Do I start with free wordpress domain and then transfer my domain later?

Yes, that’s what I would recommend. You can create a free site here, start adding content and choosing a theme, then map or transfer your current domain at a later date — it’s worth noting you’ll need a custom domain in order to install plugins and custom themes.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
