Transferring from Wix

  I would like to transfer my site over but would 1st like to test out WordPress. Everyone tells me it is better but as I am building it myself I want to know that I am able to use it.
  I am lead to believe that WordPress is harder to learn than Wix was.
  I would like to be able to use all the extra features that you have but would like a couple of weeks to try before transferring.
  If it’s as good as I am told​ I will just transfer the ULR and then build a whole new site.

  We think we’re easier to use than Wix, but we do have a few more features than Wix, so there’s a bit more to learn if you want to use everything: https://wordpress.com/compare/wix/

  I recommend starting with a free site first. You can upgrade to a paid plan to add a custom domain and use other features at any time. :)

  If you have a custom domain you’d already like to use, you can build the site here first, and then add the domain when you’re ready.

  I have a domain that I’d like to keep. I just want to know if and how I can play around with WordPress before moving it over.

  You can add the domain at any time, so you can start with the free subdomain we give you, configure your site as desired, and add your domain when you’re ready to launch.

  For adding a custom domain you already own, we have two options:

  1. Mapping allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

  2. A transfer would allow to manage both your site and domain from the same place: https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

  These can both be done at any time. :)

  how do I start with a subdomain? Step 4 on the set up offers me the options of transferring mine or mapping.

  On step 4, choose the free option at the top of the list: https://cld.wthms.co/adPVWJ (green rectangle added for clarity)

  You’ll purchase a plan and add a domain later. :)
