Transferring mapped domain from private account to professional account
-
Hello,
I mapped a domain with website, which I created on my private account, but then I decided to set up a new one on the brand new account I created for my business. I wanted to map my domain with a new website set on the professional account, but I get message, what it was used and is not available yet. Do you have any idea, how long would I need to wait, till it is valid again? Is there any way to free it quicker? -
Hi –
Please let us know which domain you’re working on and then we can check the status to provide some more information. Thanks.
-
Hello,
Thank you for replying.
The domain is: arte-facts.co.uk. Do you need the previous website as well? -
The domain is no longer mapped, so you should have no trouble mapping it to another WordPress.com site.
Which site are you trying to map it to?
-
Thank you very much for reply.
I stil receive this note: ‘This domain was recently in use by someone else and is not available to map yet. Please try again later or contact support.’
The website I wanted to link it to is: artefacts462177587.wordpress.com

Hi –
You might just need to clear your browser cache. It could be showing you outdated information. Here’s how:
If that does not work, go ahead and try mapping it from a different browser all together.
Write back to let me know if more help is needed.
-
Thank you for this.
I cleaned all the history on both browsers I had been using, I downloaded a new one and logged in from it, but, unfortunately, I still get this info: ‘This domain was recently in use by someone else and is not available to map yet. Please try again later or contact support”.

Ok, so there actually is a 14-day block on re-mapping, sorry about that!
In this case, you have 2 options:
1. If you want to re-map it under the same account it was mapped before (not the one you’re currently logged into), I can send a manual payment request and re-map the domain now for you.
2. Or, just wait until September 17 to map it again under the account you’re currently logged into.
-
Oh, I see. Thank you for that.
I don’t want to wait. If I pay for this, you will be able to attach it back to my previous site straight away? Is the payment just for mapping? Or hosting as well?
Thank you!
-
Hi there,
If I pay for this, you will be able to attach it back to my previous site straight away?
Yes. As soon as we receive the payment we will restore the mapping. There’s no 14-day wait time if we mat it to the same account (@krawczykmalgorzata).
Is the payment just for mapping? Or hosting as well?
The payment will only be for the mapping. Your site will have the free hosting offered by the Free plan (3GB).
If you wish to purchase a paid plan, then the mapping is included for free. If you go that route, purchase the plan first and then notify us to restore the mapping.

Hi!
Thank you so much for the reply. I have already bought the plan, but if it is possible, to map the site without for the time being, I will cancel the subscription, as I don’t need that much space right now.
Thank you.

Yes!
Thank you very much. I understand, that I need to wait up to 72 hours for my site to be visible, is that correct? Because I still get yellowfins badge with information, that some of my domains still need to be configured.
My site address is arte-facts.co.uk, but it just shows the 404 error. Should I just need to be patient, or there is something that needs to be fixed?
-
arte-facts.co.uk name servers are not configured to point to your WordPress.com website. You need to update them by following these instructions:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#change-your-domains-name-servers
Instructions specific to your domain provider can be found here:
https://www.names.co.uk/support/1161-changing_the_nameservers_for_a_domain_name.html

Thank you very much for your help. It seems fine now, however there is stil 404 error. But I just need to wait no, I expect, right?
-
On what URL exactly are you seeing a 404 error?
If you’ve mapped the domain to a different site than it was mapped to before, any URLs that are specific to posts or pages on the original site will give 404 errors, as those posts and pages don’t exist on the new site you’ve mapped the domain to.
-
On My Sites on wordpress my site has this address as well and displays on the main screen. But when I try to see it online, there is the error 404.
-
arte-facts.co.uk is correctly configured and it loads your WordPress.com site when I visit it. Please clear your browser’s cache and try again:

I have cleared the cache of both browser’s I am using, but there is still error.
However, when I posted the site address on Facebook, the thumbnail showed. But the link does not work. -
