Transferring Mapped Domain to New Address
-
My current Primary Domain is blog.twowayradiosfor.com, which is a Mapped Domain. I own twowayradiosfor.com and acullc.com through GoDaddy. I want to change my Primary Domain from blog.twowayradiosfor.com to blog.acullc.com, but I don’t currently have blog.acullc.com set up anywhere. How can I change that without paying money? I want to essentially delete blog.twowayradiosfor.com and use blog.acullc.com instead but I want to transfer my old blog posts.

Hi there,
The domain mapping for blog.twowayradiosfor.com does not belong to the account you’re using to post here, but to a different account,
bdaubenmire. To simply switch out the mappings, that account will have to contact us directly for help. That account still owns a legacy stand-alone domain upgrade, and we can still do this at their request. But as your account does not own any legacy domain upgrades, the only way for you to add a domain upgrade is to buy a paid plan.
I see you’ve since bought a Personal Plan and domain mapping upgrade using this account. Before we’d be able to switch out the domains for the other account, you’d have to cancel the new domain mapping you added via this account, as two different accounts cannot own a domain mapping for the same domain.

Thank you for the response! So, Billy Daubenmire originally managed our blog, but he left about 4 years ago. I don’t know if we still have access to his log-in. If I can find it, would it be best to follow the steps you mentioned or should I just delete that blog entirely and start a brand new blog with a new WordPress account? I’ve exported my blog posts, so I can import them into the new blog.

You won’t be able to delete the site while the other domain mapping upgrade is still active, and we cannot cancel that unless the owner, or the individual who paid for the last renewal, requests it.
But you can set the new domain you added to the site as the primary domain, and the site will load at that domain instead.
And as you are an admin you can continue to use the site indefinitely – you’d only lose access if Billy were to remove you, or if you removed yourself. But moving the content to a new site you own is certainly also an option.
If you believe you have a right to claim access to the account, you can see our account recovery options here:
Or if the person whose card was charged for the last renewal of the old domain mapping want to request that is cancelled, they can contact our billing support team here:

Thank you again for the quick response. I think I might be better off just starting a brand new blog at this point. Would it be better for me to reach out to Billy to delete the old blog entirely or would it be fine to just leave it as is and never add new posts to it? Would it negatively affect SEO for my twowayradiosfor.com if no new posts are ever added to blog.twowayradiosfor.com or are they completely unrelated in that sense?

If possible, it would be wise to set the site as Private: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
That way, you’ll still have access to the content, but no one else will.
