Transferring my site to wordpress.org

    Hi there, I was going to delete the site as I am transferring the site to wordpress.org – is this the best way to go about this?

    Hi there,

    You can delete a site from My Site ->Settings. Just make sure you’ve finished importing all the content to the self-hosted site first. And if you want us to transfer your WordPress.com followers and stats to the new site, that has to be done before the site is deleted as well. This will also require you to install the Jetpack plugin on the new site and connect it to your WordPress.com account.

    Also keep in mind that once you delete the WordPress.com site, all old links you may have shared online, like on Facebook, for example, will stop working. If you still want people to be able to find your new site via those links, you should not delete the site, but instead buy our Site Redirect upgrade so we can forward people clicking those links to your new site.
