Transferring Paid Plan From One Domain To Another – How? Will it damage sites?

    Hi everyone,

I have a paid Personal Plan on one domain and would like to change it to a new domain I created (downgrading the domain it is currently on to a Free Plan). Does anyone know how to do this?

Does anyone also know whether or not there will be any damage done to the old site that was on the Personal Plan when I downgrade it and transfer its plan to the new site?

The ? menu instructed me to contact customer support. I used the AI bot and it said a real person would send an email but there hasn’t been one yet. I know the person would not be able to deal with my request right away, I just expected at least a confirmation email of sorts to be sent to me from WordPress that indicated my request had successfully gone through to a real person and would be looked at. Here I am left in the dark wondering if my message was received, hence this post.

    Thanks for the help.

Hi there, the paid plan is tied to a site, not directly to the domain name. If you want the Personal plan moved from one site to another site in the same account, WordPress.com support has to do that for you. Only the current plan owner can request the move.

The old site should not lose its posts, pages, or media if it goes back to a free site. What changes are the paid-plan features, for example, it would no longer be able to use a custom domain name as its main address unless it has a paid plan again.

If the domain name also needs to be moved to the new site, that is handled separately from the plan move: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/move-a-domain-to-another-wordpress-com-site/.
