Trouble becoming administrator on another WordPress site.

  I created a blog site on WordPress that I have never used. I have been invited to become an administrator on another WordPress site. When I logged in with my email address, it recognized my email. But when I tried to create a new password, it asked for my old PW, which I inserted. It still thinks I am on the blog, and I cannot figure out how to create new information so I can become an administrator on this other site. What should I do?

  Which site? Where is the URL?

  I’m sorry but we cannot provide accurate answers to any blogger who fails to provide the exact URL starting with http:// for the exact blog they refer to so we can verify where it is hosted. Please do that now.

  What I post below applies ONLY to WordPress.COM hosted blogs and not others.

  Here is what the relevant support doc states:

  They will need to click the “Accept Invitation” button in the invitation email. If they are logged into their WordPress.com account, they will be taken directly to your blog. If not, they will be taken to the log-in screen, where they can either log in or create a new user account.

  Note that users who create a new WordPress.com account at that point will still need to return to the invitation email and click the “Accept Invitation” button after doing so.

  If you are referring to a WordPress.COM hosted blog and are not successful post again and provide all the details including the username and email address of the person who sent the invitation and the URL of the blog. The software will redact ie. HIDE the email address so only Staff can see it. After you do that type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff attention, and subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond.

  Logged in where? To the kashahelget.wordpress.com account, the one you were invited to become an adminstrator on, or another?

  If you’re referring to the “other” website where you were invited to become an administrator, then this might be why you couldn’t change the password. It stands to reason that a second administrator would not be able to change the password on the account. Only the account owner can change the password of an account. You’re trying to create a new password on a website you just got invited to? Or am I misunderstanding?

  Only an administrator of the second site can make you an administrator. If you were indeed invited as an administrator to this website and have gained access to it, yet find you do not have administrative privileges, then the first thing to do might be to check your assigned user role at Users > All Users.
