Trouble logging in to my editor.

I’ve hired someone to help revise my blog, but we’re running into a strange login issue. I can log into the editor without any problems using my credentials, but when I share that exact same username and password with my developer, they receive an error message and cannot get in. Has anyone experienced this or know what might be blocking them?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sharing your own username and password with someone else won’t work reliably. WordPress.com accounts are tied to the individual, so credentials often fail when used from a different device or location due to security protections.

The right way to give your developer access is to invite them as a user on your site. Head to Users → Add New and invite them with their own email address, assigning them the Administrator role so they can make the changes you need.

To invite your developer, go to Users → Add New, enter your developer’s email address, select Administrator from the Role dropdown, then click Send Invitation — they’ll receive an email to create their own WordPress.com account, and once they accept, they’ll have full access to HC Predefs Hub.

Once they’re done with their work, go back to Users → All Users and remove their account to keep your site secure. There’s also a video walkthrough if you’d like: how to invite users to your site.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! I actually tried that first, but when they created an account, it gave them an error message upon logging in. That’s when I tried using my own credentials instead, but unfortunately, neither method seems to work.

Thanks for the additional details. I’m sorry to hear you’re still running into this issue.

To help us investigate further, could you please let us know:

    • Are they accepting the invitation that is sent to them after you add them as an Administrator to your site?
    • At which exact step does the error appear?
    • Is the error they receive when using your credentials the same as the error they see when accepting the invitation, or are they different?

If possible, could you also share a screenshot of both the error messages? That will help us narrow down what’s happening.

I request you to not share any sensitive information, such as passwords, verification codes, or payment details, in your reply or screenshots.

I would still strongly recommend not sharing your own administrator/owner username and password, even if it’s someone you trust. For security reasons, it’s always best for each person to have their own WordPress.com account and for you to invite them to your site as an Administrator.

Once we have the screenshot and the steps your developer is taking, we’ll be happy to help investigate further.
