trouble moving a wordpress blog to a new domain
-
I want to move an existing Word Press blog to a new domain with a new name. I have picked up two quite different “recipes” from the forum and tried both without success:
1) I have copied the wordpress files from the server directory of the old domain (www.universalforum.org/shianshenka) to the server directory of the new domain (www.shianshenka.com). I shouldn’t need to change the wp-config.php file, as the MySQL database and both domains are on the same server. I created a new account on WordPress.com in order to administer the new website but the interface is quite different. In the “general settings” of the new site, the two “url” fields “WordPress address” and “site address” that I would use to tell WordPress where to find all my files are missing.2) So then I tried another recipe the community forum, and tried to do it by visiting Store-Domains on the Dashboard of the original website in order to add the new domain, and change the primary domain. But there isn’t a tab saying “store” on the dashboard of the old blog. In fact the dashboard of the old blog has never been useful as it says “Welcome to your new website” as if I was beginning from scratch.
Which of the above methods should I try to work with, and how?
Thanks for your help!

It sounds like you are working on a self-hosted WordPress site using the WordPress.org software. Due to the fact that we do not have access to your files or servers, WordPress.com staff cannot assist with self hosted site troubleshooting.
Your best bet would be the WordPress.org support resources:
