Trouble with MX Records for setting up email
-
I have a blog with you and also registered a domain through you. I now want to rent an Exchange-based email account from Apps4Rent. They tell me I need to get the MX records to point to them abut when I tried to validate the MX instruction examples they sent me –
guywhitcroft.com –> mx11.hostmailserver.com, Priority 10
guywhitcroft.com –> mx12.hostmailserver.com, Priority 10I got the following error message:
We can’t save these records because they don’t look right to us. Check the errors below. Please contact support if you are unable to resolve the problem.1. This does not match any of the DNS record formats.
2. This does not match any of the DNS record formats. Can you give me the correct format please.

OK, I managed to find an answer with help from Apps4Rent and some experimentation for anyone else that might need it. MX record format for the above would be:
MX 10 mx11.hostmailserver.com.
MX 10 mx12.hostmailserver.com.There’s also a CNAME record needed, which would take the format:
CNAME autodiscover autodiscoverredirect.dataoncloud.com.Hope this is helpful to someone else at some point.

Hi Guy,
I’m glad you were able to find the MX record format you needed. Please let me know if I can provide any further help with this!
We have a guide for setting up email with custom domains here: Add Email
To use an email provider not listed on that page, you can use this guide to set up email records: Add Email through other providers
