Trouble with startup

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

Yesterday I made a plan through bluehost and purchased a domain name. Then I was supposed to install WordPress through bluehost, which I did. When I open bluehost, my domain name is correct, when I open WordPress “Wordpress.com” is in the url after my name. Also, how do I switch from WordPress.com to WordPress.org?

Sorry for all the confusion and thank you for your patience :)

    Hi there,

Your site is using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) and hosted with another WebHost( Bluehost in your case )
The forum you are posting on is intended for supporting free sites hosted here at WordPress.com. For help with a WordPress site hosted elsewhere you’ll need to ask over at the WordPress.org forums:
    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

/*Your WebHost support team may also be able to assist you assuming your hosting plan covers the support you require */

For information regarding the difference between .org and .com please read here

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

There should not be an issue of switching from WordPress.com to WordPress.org as these two are separate entities hence you should not be trying to access your site on WordPress.com unless you have a site on WordPress.com which you now want to move to WordPress.org in which case please respond on the thread and someone will help you with that.

  • Hi there!

Let me chime in and try to clear the confusion. There are WordPress.com and WordPress.org, and they are two different entities.

WordPress.com is a cloud-based platform where we manage WordPress sites, whereas WordPress.org is stand-alone software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting.

If you host your site via Bluehost, it’s what we call here a self-hosted site.
If you would like to connect it to your WordPress.com account, you would need to install Jetpack, as explained here:
