  Is there a way to try WordPress without first transferring the domain?

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  Yes you are welcome to start a site here and use the “wordpress.com” address we assign to all sites. This will allow you to try out the platform and then you can move your URL over when you are ready.
