Trying to edit a particular post fails with server error
-
I take the following steps:
1. Go to my posts overview page at:
https://pjakma.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
2. Click on the url to edit the top-most draft, called “Life”, at:
https://pjakma.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=655&action=edit
3. Result is that I get this error in my Chromium browser: “HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.”
4. Try clearing my cookies and my cache, and retry – same result.
5. Try opening the URL in other browsers (epiphany, elinks) – same result.
I conclude that, as the error says, there is some kind of problem on the wordpress.com server. I *am* able to edit other drafts – the problem appears to be specific to this post.

Since only staff can see draft posts in your dashboard, I’ve tagged this for their assistance.
Meanwhile, please confirm that you have also tried shutting down your browsers as well as restarting your computer.
Please note that WordPress.com works best in the browsers found at this site http://browsehappy.com, specifically FireFox and Chrome. You can find more troubleshooting tips here http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

I started up new browser instances when I used Epiphany and elinks. I didn’t restart my computer, I’m using Linux and restarting is rarely needed to fix things, and this is not the type of problem that would suggest any need for a restart.
In particular, the “elinks” browser I used is relatively simple, has few system dependencies and still shows this problem. Given this, and the class of HTTP error returned, it’s improbable that the problem is specific to my system.
Thanks!

Just on a long shot, what happens if you create a new post from the old one by using the “Copy Post” utility?
-
Hm, I see the problem too, on just that post.
We may not be able to investigate or fix this until tomorrow, so I recommend just using the Copy Post utility as justjennifer mentioned above.
-
Hey, that worked! At least, it got me a copy of my text that I can edit!
I will leave the original draft, with that ID in the URL above, alone so your engineers can have a look and see what kind of crash it is triggering in your server-side code!
Thanks very much justjennifer & macmanx! :)
