Trying to go from “Full Text” to “Excerpt” on home page

  When I made the blog, I had it publish the whole post on the front page. Now, I want to make it so that it is just a custom summary or hand-picked excerpt and have the reader go to the post’s page to read the whole thing.

  Except I’m stupid and can’t figure out how.

  I went into “screen options” drop-down menu in the post-editing page and turned on “excerpt”. I went into “settings” for “reading” and swapped it from “full text” to “summary” and saved the changes. Nothing happened to the front page yet.

  Then I put my hand-picked excerpt into the excerpt box on a post and hit “update”. Still nothing. What did I miss? Thanks!

  Alright, so I figured out that summary is the first 55 words which is not what I want. Also, something to do with RSS feeds and such and not at all what I’m trying to do. So what AM I supposed to be doing?
