Trying to learn and grow

Let me begin by saying that I was born in 1954 which should tell you just about everything you need to know regarding my comfort level with technology. Last summer a friend of mind set up a very basic WordPress blog so that I could record a month long trip to France. I loved posting stories and pictures (regardless of how few people actually visited the site) and would like to continue. However, I need to learn how to grow / maintain / improve my blog, however, the problem is that I don’t know where to begin. I need basic, user friendly advice that will help me get to the next level (actually get a domaine). There you have it, that’s my story. Where do I go, who do I speak with, what should I do next?
