Trying to move to WordPress.org
-
I know there’s several posts about this but I’m still confused. I’ve purchased 2 Domain mappings here at Worpress.com but now I want to set up WordPress.org and am getting nowhere. I’ve purchased hosting with Host Gator but when i try to sign in it’s taking me to my blog here and I don’t want that to happen. I’ve tried the export function under tools but am still not getting it. I think it’s because I can’t get WP.org to start up. I’d gladly delete everything here and start from scratch with WP.org but can’t even seem to get WP.org to set up on my computer?? Please help! Thanks,

First, you’ll need to install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/ on your hosting provider.
Then, direct your domain to your hosting provider following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/
Once that’s done, you can move your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress at:
http://wordpress.org/support/
http://codex.wordpress.org/We do offer yearly and one-time premium support packages for self-hosted WordPress sites through our VIP program, available at http://vip.wordpress.com

On the 1st guide you sent me, it says to “Cancel/refund” the blogs. But there is also the option to “Transfer to another Site”. Which would be easier and/or recommendable? Thanks

At this time, I recommend changing your name servers: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/
You won’t be able to transfer the domain until April 10, and if you cancel it, there is no guarantee that you’ll be able to re-register it.
