trying to recover an old website

I am with an organization that used to have a website on WordPress. I thin we switched bank accounts, so our old credit card, with which we automatically renewed our website, no longer worked. Is there any way to recover it and get it back online?

We have no record of that domain ever being registered or hosted here, so it was most likely a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted elsewhere.
Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. It was also not using our backup product https://jetpack.com/upgrade/backup/ so we’re unable to directly assist with this.
Your best option is to contact your hosting provider’s support to ask if they still have a backup of your account that you can restore to.
If they cannot help, you’re welcome to start a new site with us here via https://wordpress.com/start where you’ll at least be able to copy/paste content from an archived copy of the old site, like https://web.archive.org/web/20190106010348/http://www.swlgs.org/wpress
