trying to resurrect my old wordpress.com account

my last post was over 6 years ago – i tried doing a reset password to email but i have a feeling it was (email visible only to moderators and staff) or (email visible only to moderators and staff) but those emails have been long dead – but as you can imagine transaction id, act url or key or 2 factor auth was a pipe dream 6 years ago, let alone when i started the account in 2009 ;)
any ideas on how i can get my blog back ? :)

Okay. I can see the password reset emails for that site are bouncing because the email address in question no longer exists. However, I cannot tell you what that email address is.
I’m afraid unless you’re able to verify your ownership via one of the other methods described in https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/, we won’t be able to give you access to that site or the account that owns it.

yeah but obviously none of the auth url/key or 2 factor was around so that’s impossible :)
what if i confirmed what the old email addy was – i could easily confirm its my blog through fb posts, my twitter – the various references in my posts etc :)

We can only accept an actual email from the address on file as verification of account ownership.
We have these rules in place to protect our customers from unauthorised access to their accounts or sites, and cannot make any exceptions to the verification requirements.
