    Remove my account

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hey there!

Since we don’t want other people to have your username in the future, we don’t delete usernames (they are kept so they cannot be recycled). For more information, please see this link below:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/

Here’s a few suggestions for you if you’d like to scrub the account:

    1) Empty and delete your sites:

First of all, be sure to empty your sites of all content. You can find out more about how to do this here:

Empty Your Site to Start Fresh

Next, delete the site following the guide on this page:

    Delete a Website

Please be aware that this is irreversible!

    2) If you are trying to unsubscribe from emails sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block Emails”:

    https://wordpress.com/settings/notifications/

    3) You can also go here to remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This will only leave the username behind:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account/
    https://wordpress.com/me/profile

    4) To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:

    http://www.thebitmill.com/tools/password.html

    5) While you cannot completely delete your Gravatar profile, you can remove all of your profile information easily through the “Edit My Profile” page here:

    http://en.gravatar.com/profiles/edit/?noclose#about-you

You can also hide your Gravatar profile from external access. Visit your profile page (click your name in the top navigation of the website), then click the “Hide My Profile” link in the bottom, right-hand corner.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply and sorry the question was so poorly detailed.
Being a first time user I opened an account using a tablet but with the wrong name due to poor typing on my behalf.
I later returned using my larger windows system and noted that I had messed up the account name but I continued on for a while learning the various options. When I had a better understanding and after reading the help notes I thought I had killed off the first blundered account and all its files.
Then I created a second account with a similar but different name and began build a blog with a modified copy of my original text. I had copied the text etc onto a folder on my hard drive. When I tried to read what I had created on wordpress I could see the new material I had just created but attached at the bottom was a copy of the old text that i thought I had removed (deleted). when I killed my original account.
    Hence the silly help message.
I have since removed the second account so, in theory I have no accounts on wordpress, but I can still login to the first account created and reply to your message.
That sounds very strange to me, either i have an account or I dont!
I have not tried to login to the second account but will do in a few minutes to see if deleting and account actually “kills” everything.
It is just not the way I thought wordpress would work. I can understand keeping old passwords but why let me login to an account that should not exist?

PS the 1938 is a significant year in my life.

  • Hi there,

Although you cannot completely delete your account completely ( to prevent others from using your username in the future), you can lock down your account so that no one else can view or access the site, and then create a throwaway email address that you can deactivate later so that no one (including you) can log in. Instructions on setting up throwaway address is provided in the 3rd point above.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!
