Two accounts.

    Hi there,
I created an account through SiteGround but also on WordPress. I thought they were attached but it’s looks like it has made two.

Can you confirm this and help me close one?

  • Hi –

Sure thing. First, let’s make sure that your site isn’t attached here in any way since you have hosting already established with Site Ground.

What’s the URL of the site involved?

When I log in through SiteGround it had my website with my domain name available. (Which is rhiannonmarina.com).
It’s not set up yet as I am still working out how to use it.

If I log into WordPress alone it tells me to create a site- which makes me think I have two accounts under the one log in.

I want to keep the one with my domain name…

    Rhi

  • Your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with SiteGround.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

And, that’s why you have two separate accounts. :)

If you do want to connect that site to your WordPress.com account, you can do so with the Jetpack plugin: https://jetpack.com/support/getting-started-with-jetpack/

Ahh I did not know this.
So if I set it up through SiteGround I have WordPress.org?

How can I cancel the other account? I do not wish to pay for Jetpack at this stage.

If I have set up my WordPress through SiteGround do I always log in through SiteGround or can I go straight to WordPress and/or the app?

    Thank you

  • Yes, you’re using the WordPress software from WordPress.org. :)

If you’d like, you can close your WordPress.com account following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/close-account/

If you do wish to use Jetpack though, you will need the WordPress.com account. Please note also that you can use Jetpack for free: https://jetpack.com/pricing/

  • Hi @rhiannonmarina,

So if I set it up through SiteGround I have WordPress.org?

Correct – that’s a copy of WordPress you’re running through them.

How can I cancel the other account?

Can you log out, and log in with that account? You’ll be able to manage that account while logged into it.

If I have set up my WordPress through SiteGround do I always log in through SiteGround or can I go straight to WordPress and/or the app?

You’re welcome to use Jetpack to self-manage the site through WordPress.com. We do have a free option for that; it just doesn’t come with backups and what not.

Or, you can use (yoursite.com)/wp-admin to edit your site.

    Thanks for your help!

I’m still a little lost as to how I can close the WordPress.com account as it’s the same email and password for both accounts.

Although if I get Jetpack maybe it will join them together.

  • You can close your WordPress.com account from https://wordpress.com/me/account/

    Close Your Account

Your WordPress.com account is something completely separate and different from your site’s admin user account, so closing the WordPress.com account won’t have any effect on the site admin account.

If you want to use Jepack, you will need a WordPress.com account, though. That would allow you to manage the site via your WordPress.com account instead of the admin user account, but those will remain two separate accounts, with separate login credentials.
