Two-step authentication: lost phone, no backup codes, no transaction IDs

  • Unknown's avatar

Hey! I am so sorry about this, but I am in the same boat as others like me:

I have switched my phone number and forgot to change it in my 2FA settings before the 30 day window of my last login was over. I only have the e-mail for the account I am trying to log into (realdanniaskini.wordpress.com).

Can you please disable 2FA or send me a code? I have already changed my password, but it still asks for an SMS code that goes to my old phone number I can no longer access.

    Thank you so much!

  • Hi there,

When you set up 2-factor authentication you were provided with backup codes you had to print out. You can use one of those backup codes to disable 2FA so you can re-enable it with a new number.

    Enable Two-Step Authentication

I cannot find those backup codes. Do I still have any other options? I still have access to the e-mail address and can reset my password.

  • Okay, I’ve emailed the address on file for that site. Please reply to the email if you receive it, and we can help from there.
